Formulation Development of Meloxicam Loaded Transdermal Patches and Their Evaluation

Rahul Kumar Verma, Sachin Kumar, Chanchal Chaurasiya

Abstract

The current studies aim the Formulation and development of transdermal patches of Meloxicam. Meloxicam is a Non- Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug. Transdermal patches show better patient compliance over conventional dosage forms because of their longer time of operation resulting in a reduction in less frequent dosing. Six batches of transdermal patches were prepared using different concentrations of hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, and polyvinyl pyrrolidone to increase the physical properties of transdermal patches. Evaluation parameter such as thickness, weight uniformity, folding endurance, % moisture content, % moisture uptake, water vapor transition test, % drug content, % elongation break test, and in-vitro release study was performed on transdermal patches of each batch, and batch-2 was optimized best batch from all six batches. Batch-2 shows the best evaluation parameters. Batch-1 is also able to release 85.22% drug release.
