A Study on Ethnomedicinal Properties of Tinospora cordifolia in Ranchi District of Jharkhand, India

Abstract


Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) is commonly called as Rasayana plant and its rejuvenating property is well described in the Ayurveda and other ancient literature. Surveys were carried out during January 2017 to March 2018 in different regions of Ranchi district of Jharkhand, India in order to collect the ethnomedical data. The survey provides evidence that the local people, tribal healers and folks are continuing to use this plant for various medicinal purposes. Therefore, this plant has great significance for the treatment of various kinds of diseases. The whole plant of Guduchi has many medicinal properties. Therefore, it is used in diseases such as jaundice, oedema, gout, diabetes, swine flu (H1N1), hepatitis, hyperacidity, dyspepsia, fever, urinary problem, skin and several other diseases. The preparation of crude extract and decoction process also proved the presence of alkaloids in the leaves namely, tinosporin, tinosporic acid and tinosporol that are very rich in protein, calcium, and phosphorus.
