Abstract

Aciclovir gives antiviral activity; one, new, simple, accurate, rapid, economical and precise procedure for spectrophotometric estimation of aciclovir in bulk drug. Aciclovir was estimated at 254 nm in 0.1 M sodium hydroxide, at 254 nm in 0.1 M hydrochloric acid, and at 254 nm in 7.4 phosphate buffers. The linearity range was found to be 5–30 µg/ml. The molar absorptivity was found to be 9.376x10 in 0.1 M sodium hydroxide, in 9.530x10 in 7.4 phosphate buffer and 9.481x10 in 0.1 M hydrochloric acid. The methods are validated and can be successfully applied to estimate aciclovir in pharmaceutical dosage forms.
