Abstract

Ipomoea aquatica, commonly known as water spinach, is a semi-aquatic, tropical plant.  It is cultivated as a vegetable and originated first in Southeast Asia.  It grows abundantly near waterways and requires little to no care.  The current review summarizes the various studies done to evaluate the nutritional, phytochemical and pharmacological aspect of water spinach, lpomoea aquatica forssk, commonly known as Jalpalak in Hindi.  The review has been done by intensive electronic search by Cochrane, PubMed and EMBASE.  Some selected published works were thoroughly analyzed to understand and get insight on the above-mentioned topic.
