Preparation and Characterization of Solid Dispersion of Tenoxicam
Abstract
The aim of the present study was to prepare solid dispersions of a poorly water-soluble drug Tenoxicam in Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), prepared by spray-drying techniques. The physicochemical properties of the solid dispersion and drug-polymer interactions were characterized by DSC, FT-IR, XRD and SEM. Tenoxicam was found amorphously dispersed in solid dispersion systems with the drug to polymer weight ratio of 1:3. Dissolution profile of the prepared solid dispersion was compared with commercial sample. The solubility of prepared solid dispersion exhibited increases in solubility and dissolution than the commercial Tenoxicam.
