In-Vitro Evaluation of Extended Release Atorvastatin Tablets by using Natural Gums
Abstract
The present research is the formulation of extended-release tablets Atorvastatin is used as a hypoglycemic agent; it is HMG CoA Reductase inhibitor. All the formulation were prepared with using different grades of xanthan gum, guar gum, sodium alginate, then all the formulations were subjected to pre-compression and post-compression parameters such as angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, Carr’s index, Hausner's ratio, weight variation, thickness, hardness, friability and drug content. All the formulations were showed within IP specifications. Total weight of the tablets was considered as 200 mg. The “9” formulations were carried out in-vitro drug release studies. Among all the formulations “F6” formulation containing guar gum was showed a maximum percentage of drug release up to 12 hours. So, this is the optimized formula and applied release kinetics to optimized formula, and it followed zero-order release kinetics.
