A Study To Assess The Knowledge Regarding Dash Diet Among Hypertensive Patients Admitted At Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College And Hospital With A View To Develop Informational Pamphlet.

Abstract


Objective: The objective was to assess the knowledge regarding DASH diet among hypertensive patients admitted at DR. B.R Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital.Resaerch Approach:Quantitative Approach,Design: Descriptive study. Conceptual Framework: Modified Conceptual Framework On Revised Pender’s Health Promotion Model (1980’s), Reframed By S.Saddle River, N.J Prentile Hall.Sampling Size: 25 hypertensive patients,Sampling Technique:Purposive sampling technique.Data were collected using the structured knowledge questionnaire.Data Analysis And Interpretation: Descriptive and Inferential statistics. Results:Among 25 samples, 40% of the respondents were of age group 61-70years, 60% of the respondents were male. 76% of the respondents were married. 60% of the respondents completed their primary education. 36% of the respondents were having hypertension for 5 years and above. 60% of the respondent’s family member is having hypertension. 72% of the respondents consume mixed diet. 44% of the respondents belong to Muslim religion. 56% of the respondents live in urban area. The majority of the respondents are having moderate knowledge (64%) and 36% of the respondents are having inadequate knowledge. None of the respondents were having adequate knowledge. Conclusion:The overall findings of the study clearly showed that there is knowledge deficit regarding DASH diet among hypertensive patients. To improve their knowledge regarding DASH diet, adequate information was provided through informational pamphlet.
