Abstract

In the present study, we have evaluated different extracts of Celosia argentea seeds for analgesic and antipyretic activities using different models of pain and rectal temperature. The analgesic activity of Celosia argentea was carried out using eddy’s hot plate method in mice. The antipyretic activity was carried out using yeast induced pyrexia in rats. The three different extracts (Ext I: Pet ether, Ext II: Ethanol, Ext III: Aqueous) of Celosia argentea at the dose of 200 and 500 mg/kg b.w. were tested. The ethanolic and aqueous extracts (200 and 500 mg/kg b.w.) were found to be more effective in preventing elevated body temperature and increased latency period in eddy’s hot plate method as compared to the control. The extracts possessed significant analgesic and antipyretic activities against screening models of pain and rectal temperature.
