Usage Pattern of Antibiotics for Management of Pneumonia
Abstract
Abstract
Pneumonia has evolved as one of the deadly infections globally and is a cause of concern all over the world. It is an air borne infection affecting the alveoli of the lungs and is caused by virus, bacteria, fungus etc. Antibiotic therapy is the most commonly available therapy in cases of pneumonia. Hence analysis of prescribing pattern of narrow and broad-spectrum antibiotics in pneumonia patients is essential for better treatment of disease. The study also aimed at prescription pattern across different age groups namely paediatrics, adults and elderly. The patients were also analysed based on sex, smoking habits and co-morbidities. The development of drug resistant pneumonia is a cause of concern in a long run. This study was conducted in a multi-speciality hospital among 225 patients.
