Abstract

Vasa Ghrita is an Ayurvedic formulation, which is beneficial in the management of Raktapitta, Shawasa, Kasa and Jirna Jwara. Vasa Ghrita was prepared as per method mentioned in Charaka Samhita. A pharmacognostical study involving powder microscopy of raw drugs of Vasa plant and Flower. Organoleptic and Physicochemical analysis of the finished product was carried out, to evaluate the quality of the formulation. The specific gravity of the formulation was 1.4543 and pH was 5.22. Iodine value, saponification value, acid value and specific gravity of Vasa Ghrita were observed 35.5367, 208.3, 1.0394, 0.7511 respectively. High performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) was carried out and after organizing the appropriate solvent system the HPTLC fingerprint was develop for Vasa Ghrita. The observations could be considered to be the reference standards in future studies.
