Abstract

G. sylvestre is herb plant and belongs to the Asclepiadaceae family. Leaves of this plant are used for making medicine for the treatment of diabetes they are also used as diuretics, as well as work sugar destroyers. The main chemical constituent of this plant is gymnemic acid. Investigation of literature uncovered some eminent pharmacological activities of this plant such as antidiabetic, hypolipidaemic, antimicrobial, free radical scavenging antiobesity and anti-inflammatory activities. Though the plant has abundant pharmacological and phytochemical characteristics less work is done on compiling the scientific. The present investigation focuses on traditional uses, phytochemical and pharmacological reports on G.sylvetsre by using ethylacetate , chloroform and aqueous extracts.

Keywords

G. sylvestre; Eminent; Phytochemical, pharmacological activities.
