A Comparative Clinical Study of Uttar Basti, Chatuprasrtik Basti and Shatavaryadi Choorna in the Management of Kshina Shukra w.s.r. to Oligospermia.

Abstract


Introduction: Issue related to male infertility are thought to play a role in the infertility of nearly 40% of couples facing fertility challenges. These include Azoospermia, Aspermia, Necrospermia, Oligospermia and Teratospermia etc. Ayurveda has a great role to play in such cases through its comprehensive approach and profound treatment like Panchakarma which corrects the basic physiology by eradicate the chief causative factors. Aim: This clinical study aims to compare the effectiveness of Uttarbasti, Chatuprasrtik Basti and Shatavaryadi Choorna for treating Kshina Shukra (oligospermia). Materials & Methods: eligible male patients with oligospermia between age group of 20 to 60 years were divided into three groups. Group A patients were given Uttar Basti with Bala Taila, 20 ml/ day for 3 consecutive days, followed by a three days gap. A total of 12 Basti sessions were administered. Group B Patients received Anuvasana Basti with 60 ml Murchhit Tila Taila and Chatuprasrtik Basti in a dose of 360 ml as per Kaal Basti schedule (16 days). Group C patients received Shatavaryadi Choorna 5gm orally twice daily for 16 days with Anupana of Ghrita, Madhu and Sharkara.  Primary outcome measure was changes in sperm count. Results: Uttarbasti raised the sperm count by 393.11% (P = 0.029), Chatuprasrtik Basti by 151.19% (P = 0.002), and Shatavaryadi Choorna by 145.67% (P = 0.045). Conclusion: All three treatments were found to be effective in management of Oligospermia. Uttarbasti had better therapeutic efficacy than Chatuprasrtik Basti and Shatavaryadi Choorna.
