Herbal Immuno-modulators- Pros and Cons

Blessy Jacob, NaveenKumar M, Subha Deepa, D Visagaperumal, Vineeth Chandy

Abstract

Recently, there has been a greater global focus on plant research, and a ton of data has accumulated to show the enormous potential of the medicinal plants used in various traditional systems. In actual practise, the majority of immunostimulants and immunosuppressants are cytotoxic medications with substantial side effects. In treating immune-related disorders, there is growing interest in using herbal medicines as multi-component agents to modulate the complex immune system and prevent infections. Contributing variables related to genetics, infections, along with environment have been found to be highly connected with several autoimmune illnesses. Autoimmune diseases include insulin-dependent diabetic mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, thyroiditis, and multiple sclerosis. They encompass a variety of conditions and symptoms that can range from organ-specific to systemic. Additionally, autoimmune pathology has implications for common health issues like schizophrenia, inflammatory bowel disease, arteriosclerosis, and several forms of infertility. Due to their well-known benefits, people without adequate knowledge tend to use it excessively which may lead to long term negative effects. This review aims to give comprehensive information on the pros (health benefits) and cons (side effects) of herbs that are frequently used in daily life like Turmeric, Indian Pennywort, drumstick, green tea, Aloe vera, black cutch, Chinese hibiscus, Indian Long Pepper, Neem Tree. Among them many plants have anti-diabetic property in them which is an added advantage obtained from these herbs as our daily diet.
