Sharbat Ejaz: An Effective Herbal Formulation

Abstract

Sharbatejaz is an herbal Unani formulation, which is used for treating dry cough. This formulation is made by mixing products like AdhatodaVasica, Unnab, Sapistan, Asl-us-soos, Tukhm-e-Khatami, Tukhm-e-Khubbazi, Gul-e-Nilofar, Gul-e-Banafsha, Behidana, Aab, Kateera, Samagh-e-Arabi, and Qand Safaid. Alkaloid extract of Adhathoda helps in loosing cough while leaves of Acasia Arabica are used in sore throat. Presence of Glycyrrhin in this herbal formulation is effective for sore throat. Jujube fruit is rich in vitamin C, B1, B2, Phenolics, flavonoids and triterpenic acid which make it effective for throat infection. Leaves of Cordia latifolia and infusion of dried flower of Althae officinalis are very powerful expectorants. Nymphae alba is one of the constituents of this formulation, its rhizomes have demulcent behaviour. Friedelin and beta-sitosterol in viola odorata help in treating cough and cold, while Banafsha and Pyruscydonia have properties in treating throat infection. Mucilage presence in gum karaya and high mallow or M. Sylvestris makes them effective for treating sore throat. So, it can be said that presence of these herbal products can make this product effective against dry cough.
