The leaves of Azima tetracantha belongs to (salvadoraceae) commonly known as “mulluchangu” in Tamil, it is a best known medicinal plant from ancient period. The plant has reported for many pharmacological actions such as antifungal, antibacterial, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, antiarthritic, hypolipidemia, etc. The aim of the present study was to investigate Phytochemical screening and in vitro antibacterial and anti-arthritic activity of Azima tetracantha leaves in different solvents extract (hexane, chloroform, ethanol, ethyl acetate and water) respectively. The phytochemical study showed presence of terpenoids, tannins, steroids, phenol and glycosides etc. The in vitro antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of A. tetracantha leaves showed higher zone of inhibition against S. aureus and K. pneumoniae nearly 21–23% compared to other extracts. The antiarthritic activity of ethyl acetate extract of Azima tetracantha leaves showed 83.05% of activity compared to other extracts. Azima tetracantha is a promising ancient herbal drug for most of the disease condition.
