Monika Rameshwar Rambhad, Ajay G. Pise

Abstract

Aim: The present study was aimed to discuss the detailed description and physicochemical analysis of green tea.

Objectives:

  • To estimate the beneficial effects of green tea on humans.
  • Detailing of pharmacognostic account of green tea.
  • To understand the role of green tea in the management of cancer.
  • To evaluate their physicochemical properties.

Introduction: Green tea is obtained from ‘Camellia sinensis’ belonging to Theaceae family. It is the most widely consumed beverage after water. Green tea acts as an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, TNF-α and interleukin pathways and ultimately controls the development and progression of tumor cells.

Methodology: In order to achieve the above objectives, we have gathered information from different authentic sources including scientific journals, magazines, newspaper, textbooks, reference books etc. The gathered information was processed and analyzed to derive conclusion of the study. Research work was performed and the results obtained in different studies were analyzed and discussed meticulously.

Observations and Result: Green tea was found to have beneficial effects on health.

Conclusion: It was found that green tea has beneficial effects in cancer management and other disease conditions. Overall green tea is an affordable beverage of natural origin that can be used on daily basis.

Keywords: cancer, green tea, nutrition, physicochemical analysis, tumor cells
