Abstract

With the emergence of nanomedicine, nanobiotechnology, and nanopharmacotherapeutics, there has been a rising demand of nanomaterials. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) finds immense applications for drug delivery, biomedical sciences, catalysis, etc. Numerous industries are at present synthesizing therapeutic AgNPs to meet the global demand. By using chemical methods, which are very cost-effective to produce these materials, are quite hazardous, environment polluting, produce harmful byproducts, and have several other alarming aspects. The extract of plant-mediated synthesis of nanomaterial is emerging as an attractive technique for the fabrication of nanomaterials of controlled size and uniformity. The proposed research involved a rapid fabrication technique for AgNPs employing root extract of Saussurea lappa (RESL) which may be a foundational approach to the commercial production of nanomaterial. The RESL served as a green-technology for synthesizing silver nanomaterial of interesting flower-like morphology having a mean size of 4000–5000 nm (diameter). The optical absorption band peak of the synthesized silver nanomaterial was noticed at 440 nm due to the Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) phenomenon. The diffractogram planes reflected that silver was present as the chief constituent in the biofabrication process. The appearance of the crystalline peaks was due to the presence of the phytoconstituents in the root extract. The capping phenomenon was also confirmed by comprehensively studying employing UV, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The current study will open new perspectives of replacing the old chemical environmentally hazardous methods and may be applied in the industrial scale synthesis of therapeutically active AgNPs with better greener approach.
