TO STUDY THE IMPACT OF CLINICAL PHARMACIST IN EMPOWERMENT OF FIRST AID PRACTICE AMONG PUBLIC IN MANAGEMENT OF EMERGENCY CONDITIONS- A COMMUNITY BASED HEALTH AND SAFETY RELATED STUDY.

Abstract


Background:
There is inadequacy in knowledge required for handling emergency situations without a hospital
setting in India as the people lack knowledge and practice in first aid and this happens because
there are very few means of first aid education and training.
Aim and Objectives: Aim to study the impact of clinical pharmacist in empowerment of First
aid practices among public in management of emergency conditions: a community-based health
andsafety related Study. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the KAP of first aid
practices as well as the knowledge regarding medications used in emergency conditions among
public while providing basic hands-on training with the help of various counselling aidsand
feedback was taken regarding the same.
Methods:A prospective, observational and interventional community-based study was
performed between the age group of 16 -60 years in the area RT Nagar Bangaluru from January
to September 2022.Data collected from questionnaire was tabulated in Microsoft excel and
statistical analysis was conducted through descriptive statistics, Chi-square and Fisher’s exact
test.

Results:175 subjects ranging between the age of 16 to 60 were undertaken in the study, out of
which 101 were male and 74 were female. We assessed the knowledge, attitude and practice of
the topic regarding first aid before & after the study with the help of a questionnaire. The overall
subject score before the study was 38.7% which is 3384 points out of a complete of 8750 points
and after study was 74% which is 6475 out of 8750 points. The knowledge about the topic on
drugs used in emergency condition was also assessed, the subjects before study had inadequate
knowledge regarding the drugs used in emergency condition. Upon assessment, we saw that the
knowledge among the subjects had a fair growth after the intervention.
Conclusion:The present study attempted to highlight and promote the importance of first aid
training and its practices among public in order minimize mortality rate and found that the first
aid training program was effective in increasing knowledge, attitude and practice regarding first
aid management among public. P- Value is <0.0001 which states that the following study was
highly significant.
