In this present study the aerial and root parts of Salacia fruticosa and the entire herb of Oldenlandia umbellate were evaluated for its anti-ulcer property in Aspirin induced ulcer model and Pylorus ligation assays. Both plant materials were extracted with ethanol and given at the dose level of 200mg/kg orally after the LD50 studies to fix the dose. Ulcer index, free acidity and total acidity in pylorus ligated and aspirin induced ulcer models were calculated in Albino rats. Both of the plant extracts shows significant (P<0.01) anti-ulcer activity at the dose of 200 mg/kg.
Keywords: Salacia fruticosa, Oldenlandia umbellate, anti-ulcer.
