Formulation and Evaluation of Chewable Toothpaste Tablet Containing Cetylpyridinium Chloride

Abstract


The study’s goal was to create an effective formulation of Cetylpyridinium chloride chewable toothpaste pills. Cetylpyridinium chloride is a cationic quaternary ammonium chemical that has significant bactericidal, antiseptic, antiplaque, and anti-gingivitis effects. Cetylpyridinium chloride is an antiseptic with antimicrobial activities against a variety of oral bacteria and fungi. It has antiplaque and gingivitis properties. It is used therapeutically as an antiseptic agent; used alone or in combination with other drugs for oral and throat care; used in Nonparenteral formulations licensed in the UK; and used in oral and inhalation preparations at concentrations of 0.02–1.5 mg. Cetylpyridinium chloride chewable tablets (400 mg) were prepared by direct compression method. Tablets were evaluated based on a variety of factors, including as average weight, hardness, Carr’s index, tapped density, deformability, breakdown, preformulation test, in-vitro breakdown, and more. DSC and FTIR analyses were used to assess the drug-polymer interaction. All of the parameters were discovered to be within the standards. After looking at several criteria, it was decided that the way Cetylpyridinium chloride chewable toothpaste tablets were made worked well The study on the dissolution profile revealed that the product had a near about dissolution rate compared to remaining batches and marketed products.
