Evaluation for Diuretic Activity of Cassia auriculata

Abstract

The present study has been designed to elucidate the pharmacological activities like analgesic, anti-inflammatory and diuretic activities of flowers of Cassia auriculata on albino mice and rats. The doses for pharmacological activities was fixed petroleum ether, methanol and aqueous extracts was 500 mg/kg b.w. respectively. Analgesic activity was carried out by Eddy’s hot plate method. In this model, nociceptive reaction toward thermal stimuli in mice is a well validated model for detection of analgesic drugs from spinal origin. The methanol and aqueous extracts had shown significant activity by decreasing jumping response and paw licking response in mice. The anti-inflammatory activity was carried out by using carrageenan induced paw oedema method. Diclofenac sodium was taken as reference standard drug. The methanol and aqueous extracts showed significant reduction in the paw volume, which is comparable to control group with that of standard group.
