Kamalika Mandal, Y. Dobhal, B.C. Joshi

Abstract

Solanum incanum L. is commonly known as Sodom apple belonging to the family Solanaceae and the family consist of 75 genera and over 2000 species. The main chemical constituents of the plant are steroidal glycoside alkaloid such as Solasonine, Solasodine, Solamargine and also present are flavonoids, saponins, minerals etc. Various parts of the plant such as root, stem, fruit seeds, and flower are used medicinally. The pharmacological property of a plant depends on the presence of phytoconstituents in the plant. As per the literature survey, Solanum incanum is reported for number of pharmacological activities i.e., antinociceptive effect, antipyretic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti cytotoxic activity, in the treatment of anemia etc.
