Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (LC/MS) Profile Revealed Flavonoids with Antioxidant Potential in Butanol Fraction of Gymnema Sylvestre Leaf Extract

Gymnema sylvestre (Asclepiadaceae) is widely used in the treatment of several diseases associated with oxidative stress. This study aimed to identify Flavonoids with antioxidant potentials in Butanol fraction of Gymnema sylvestre leaf extract. In vitro antioxidant activity was studied using DPPH and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP). The results revealed higher radical scavenging activity of 86.53±0.86 in DPPH compared to the control Ascorbic acid with 84.71±0.61 and also similarly in FRAP with values of 0.475±0.001, the activities observed were concentration dependent. The tentative compounds identified in the fraction using the LCMS profile are Kaempferol, Quercetin-3-(2-galloylglucosides), Myricetin-7-(6-galloylglucoside), Furocoumarinic acid glucoside among others, most of them are flavonoids in which they represent a highly part of secondary metabolites that have been using as traditional remedies for long time. Therefore this results shows the antioxidant potential of this plant extract that could be used for pharmacological benefit which show the prospective role of flavonoids as antioxidant.
