Abstract

There are number of traditionally used herbs in Ayurveda for dental problems. Various herbs with salt were evaluated for their potential use as tooth formulations on the basis of pharmaceutical parameters. Aqueous and alcoholic extracts of formulations and marketed preparations were evaluated for qualitative chemical analysis and antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial activity was studied against study; Escherichia coli (two variety), Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans. Pharmaceutical parameters, antimicrobial screening and comparison with market formulations indicates efficacy of prepared formulations for dental caries.
