Chobchini (Smilax china Linn) with Therapeutic Role and Pharmacological Actions: A Review

Abstract

Chobchini is the rhizome of Smilax china used in tribal folk medicine for the treatment of myriad health issues in various dosage forms. S. china is one of the safest and efficacious drugs used traditionally for the treatment of various ailments of the body. It is specifically used as blood purifier to treat the phlegmatic and melancholic diseases. S. china is a multi-potential drug used in the Unani system of medicine. Chobchini that is S. china though various indications are in use, controlled trials are needed to determine its real efficacy. The chobchini plant, its properties, mechanism of action and clinical uses are briefly reviewed in the present article. Therefore, further exploration in the light of Unani mechanism of action is obvious to provide scientific evidences.
