Liposome and Its Method of Preparation: A Review

Liposomes are spherical vesicles that self-assemble and range in size from 20 nm to 10 m. They can be used as drug carriers for lipophilic, hydrophilic, and amphiphilic medications. Lipophilic and amphiphilic drugs can be encapsulated inside the lipophilic bilayer, whereas hydrophilic drugs can be integrated into the aqueous heart. Many liposomal preparations are currently undergoing clinical trials, with some of them being accepted for clinical use. By altering the biodistribution of many drugs, liposomes improve their therapeutic value. Liposome formulations are a relatively new advancement in the area of drug delivery to the body's site of action. Liposomes are designed and manufactured based on the drug type. The characteristics of the membrane and the dissolving process influence drug delivery from liposomes. Liposomes can be used to make both lipid and water-soluble drug formulations. This analysis focuses on liposome preparation, process, forming mechanism, applications, and targeting.
