Hyperlipidemia: An Herbal Remedy

Abstract


Too much cholesterol in blood is Hyperlipidemia. Cholesterol is made in liver which is essential for healthy cell membrane, brain functioning, hormone production and vitamin storage. It became problem when too much bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein is produced or ingested through unhealthy foods. Hyperlipidemia can be detected by routine blood test, in this excessive fat in blood accumulates over time, forming plaques on the walls of the arteries and blood vessels. Self-management is one of the earliest methods that is used during development of hyperlipidemia, which may not be effective in these cases, so other treatment options are required which may be include allopathic medication or Herbal treatment. In this study three herbsare discussed (Allium sativum, Turmeric and Nepeta hindostana) which help in lowering hyperlipidemia. All three herbs described have potential of lowering Cholesterol, Triglycerides and Lipoproteins making them effective to be used in herbal formulation or in day to day life for self-remedy.
